For Immediate Releasse

The Marysville School District appreciates hearing from the community and its staff as it continues ongoing efforts to prepare and submit a final budget for the 2023 - 2024 school year. School district finance is complex and often leads to misinformation and confusion. The District has provided many opportunities for learning about the budget process through public board meetings, emails, press releases, one-one meetings, discussions with represented groups, and a dedicated webpage for the budget.

The District is working diligently and being transparent in the budget process - work that began early last spring when the district announced the initial round of budget reductions impacting teachers and, later, paraprofessionals and other employees.

Marysville School District cares deeply about its employees. These challenging fiscal times affect everyone and may cause undue stress and anxiety. It is vitally important that our employees understand the seriousness of the district’s financial health. Employees must work together openly and honestly. This is the time for sharing information in factual, honest, and respectful ways amid Marysville School District’s financial difficulties. Hyperbole and embellishment are not helpful in times like these. Students deserve a system where adults work together in respectful ways with a high level of integrity. The district will continue to treat all of its employees with care and keep students at the forefront of our work.

“We must all agree to work together to meet one of the most substantial challenges in this District’s history. This is the time to collaborate and put the children first,” said Dr. Zachary Robbins, Superintendent, at the school board meeting on August 21. “We have good people in our district—a lot of good, hardworking people. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with our employee groups and anticipate honest discussions amid the financial challenges,” he added.

Marysville School District employees, families, and community members are encouraged to stay informed about the district’s finances by attending school board meetings, visiting the budget webpage at https://www.msd25.org/page/budget-2023-2024, and signing up to participate on the District’s Budget Committee (click HERE or go to bit.ly/MSDBudgetCommittee to express interest). The Board of Directors will take action on the 2023 - 2024 budget, following a review and a public hearing on the budget at a special meeting on August 28, 2023, at 5:00 pm, at the Educational Service Center Board Room.
