MARYSVILLE – At its regularly scheduled board meeting on Monday, Dec. 1, 2025, the Marysville School District Board of Directors unanimously approved an employment contract with Superintendent Deborah Rumbaugh lasting through June 30, 2028. The board’s action follows its previous vote to negotiate the superintendent's employment contract at the regular November 17 board meeting.

Deborah RumbaughDr. Rumbaugh has been serving as interim superintendent of the Marysville School District since March 2025. She was previously engaged as the consultant to guide the school closure process. With over 20 years in the educational field, she has served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, executive director, and most recently superintendent.

Before coming to Marysville, Deborah led the Stanwood-Camano School District, where she guided strategic planning, improved student achievement across all schools, and helped the district adopt new instructional practices alongside updated curriculum and assessment practices. Earlier in her career, Deborah served as an Area Superintendent in Highline Public Schools, supporting principals and district leaders in improving instruction and expanding opportunities for students across all student groups and schools.

Below is Dr. Rumbaugh's statement on the board's contract approval:

“I want to express my sincere appreciation to the Marysville School District Board of Directors for its confidence and trust in my leadership. I am humbled by this opportunity to continue serving the students, families, and staff. This work is both an honor and a responsibility I carry with great care.

I am deeply grateful for the dedication of those who helped lay the groundwork last fall. Their efforts created stability, restored momentum, and strengthened the foundation on which we now build. I also want to acknowledge the exceptional staff and new leaders across our district whose commitment and professionalism give me tremendous confidence in our continued progress.

Our promise remains unchanged: to ensure high-quality learning for every student, supported by strong partnerships and grounded in trust. That vision guides every decision we make and every action we take.

We are fortunate to serve a community rich in partnership. I am especially thankful for our collaboration with the Tulalip Tribes and the City of Marysville. Their leadership, support, and shared commitment to our students make our work stronger and our future brighter.

I look forward to the work ahead and to continuing our efforts together – board, staff, families, students, and community – to ensure that every student in Marysville is prepared for their future through inclusive, high-quality learning, strong partnerships, and a foundation of trust.”
