For Immediate Release:

M-PHS Drama Club Presents “Disney’s Freaky Friday: A Zoomsical”

M-PHS Drama Club will be presenting their Spring Summer Fall Musical in a wildly different format than they originally imagined. Work on the musical began one year ago with preplanning and auditions and after all of the lines were memorized, the sets completely built, costumes created and props purchased, everything was shut down last March. With hopes of still being able to present the show, cast members kept the show fresh by rehearsing via Zoom and hoping that when schools finally reopened, they would be able to present their show to an audience.

Fast forward to this school year. The main cast members of the musical have graduated and moved all over the country. The school building was still closed and it looked like our musical would not happen. The club had spent much of their budget and they knew that if they couldn’t present this show in some way that there may not be future shows. The Drama Club brainstormed and held auditions to fill the holes in the cast. Knowing that they would not be able to do a normal production, the plan turned to filming the show. Two attempts were made to film, but neither one worked out very well. Finally, the club set aside time to just meet on Zoom and decided to present the show as a “Zoomsical.”

The premiere of MP’s first Zoomsical will happen at 7:00 pm on December 18th. Tickets to the production are available at:

The stream will cost $7 per device plus Showtix4u service fees. This is a one-time only event. If you can’t watch it, you could consider buying a ticket as a donation or you can donate to the Drama Club at https://wa-marysville.intouchreceipting.com/. You would have to create a guest account or if you are a parent, you can log in with Skyward information then choose “Drama>Drama Donations.”

The production is created by a combination of M-PHS and M-GHS students, directed and edited by MP Drama teacher/Director Roy Klementsen. “Disney’s Freaky Friday” is based on the beloved 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films. This Disney Theatrical Production features a book by Bridget Carpenter and music and lyrics by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey. The show is being streamed with permission from Musical Theatre International
