We love our seniors!

Dear Class of 2020 Graduate,

It has been a rule for many years now that only cultural decorations and cedar caps are allowed, and that otherwise all caps must be uniform and undecorated.

Due to the unique situation brought on by the Corona Virus and subsequent moving to a distance learning model, Our seniors are unable to experience well established in ingrained events that honor and celebrate the culmination of many years of public education.  As a result, your Marysville High School Principals, with support from the Marysville School District, have decided to change our practice to allow, for this year’s graduates only, tasteful decoration of the cap each graduate wears.

What does this mean?

You can decorate your cap to make it individualized and representative of you.  Examples of cap decoration might be adding a soccer ball, the letters NHS in glitter to represent National Honor Society, or even something that represents your life’s next chapter including your post-secondary schooling pathway. You might consider a short quote or verse that has meaning to you. You could also decorate your cap with “2020” or get creative in a variety of ways--a Google search will give you some great ideas.

You may also choose not to decorate your cap--the choice is completely yours.

Remember, graduation is a solemn occasion. You have worked long and hard for this honor and when you cross that stage you represent not only your school, but your family as well. Make them, and yourself, proud in the way you choose to decorate, or not decorate, your grad cap.

What you cannot do:

You may not include references to drugs/alcohol, violence/weapons, profanity, or any other negative messages or images. School staff will check each cap upon your arrival on Diploma Day and we reserve the right to hold you caps and replace them with non-decorated caps. Do not ruin this opportunity for others by abusing this privilege. If you have an idea and you want to run it by someone you can send it to your principal for approval.

Diploma Day (May 29th) is the day you will arrive on campus according to the schedule (schedule still to be determined) and already dressed in cap and gown. We are excited to celebrate this day with you and are happy to share this new opportunity to individualize the experience for all of our proud graduates.

Sincerely,

Richard Zimmerman
